Why Global Edison was created?
In 2008 Rod Johnson, one of the founders of Global Edison, was actively developing power plants in Afghanistan to support the efforts of the United States in stabiling Afghanistan.
The people in this war torn country only had access to enough electricity to power a 100 watt light bulb for a single hour out of an entire year.
The requests for power development came from both the men in the field installing power plants and the Afghanistan Minister of the Economy
Afghanistan posed one of the most challenging environments in the world and virtually every company had turned from the challenges or signed contracts and never showed up.
Global Edison created a new approach to Afghanistan energy based on indigenous fuels as all existing and proposed power plants were based on expensive imported fuels that left a poor country even poorer and were subject to interruption.

The GEC solution was 3 very different power plants based on the indigenous fuels available
Each project was developed with the fuel conversion in an integrated approach.
The projects included building a small refinery build in modules to create domestic fuel and road building products from Afghanistan crude
The second would replace an obsolete gas fueled fertilizer with a modular a gas treatment plant and high efficiency power plant.
All of these are based on US technology and modular construction built in the US and brought in for quick deployment.

Energy Crisis in Pakistan
During the Afghanistan Energy development, the founders of Global Edison were approached simultaneously by the US government and Pakistan Prime Minister and Minister of Energy to address the Energy Crisis in neighboring Pakistan

The requirements were tough in that the power plant provide both its own
fuel source, the fuel transport infrastructure and fuel treatment/processing.
The challenges faced in Afghanistan
Very similar to the challenges faced in Afghanistan. Global Edison was successful in the international tender and two of the three winners partnered with
Global Edison who restructured, engineered and financed the projects to provide not only electricity for Karachi, the largest city in the world while providing import/export facilities for a new refinery.
